Mary
Hill Canavan, Principal
The focus of my career over the past 25 years has
been in the nonprofit sector as an educator, civic
leader and facilitator. I have been recognized for
my skill in facilitating groups dealing with strategic
planning and organizational change. My areas of
expertise include strategic leadership and planning,
board governance, leadership development, group
facilitation and conflict resolution. As a member
of the Executive Committee of the Association of
Junior Leagues International, I served as the board
facilitator for the organization's adoption of the
Policy Governance® model. In addition to providing
training and facilitation for nonprofit boards around
governance issues and strategic leadership, I have
also created and led numerous leadership development
programs for use with volunteers in community service
organizations. In 2002, I became a founding member
of the WERC Consulting Group.
I graduated
from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in
Education. My career has included serving as Director
of Continuing Medical Education at Boston University
School of Medicine after teaching special education
and elementary education in the Natick Public
Schools.
My
civic leadership includes serving on the Board
of Governors of the New Art Center; the Outreach
Committee of the Wellesley Hills Congregational
Church; Board of Directors of the Association
of Junior Leagues International, graduate of LeadBoston
1995 and Board of Directors of the LeadBoston
Community of the National Conference for Community
and Justice; facilitator for the Outward Bound
Professional Education Program; graduate of the
Policy Governance Academy 2000.
